A moment of stillness

Stillness soothes my body and mind. I slow down. I move more smoothly and deliberately.
I pause in between one activity and the next. I give my body a chance to stretch and offer my mind an opportunity to switch gears. I revisit my priorities so I can choose what project to tackle next instead of being caught up in a rush.
I focus on my breath. I inhale and exhale slower and deeper.
I scan my body for any areas of soreness or tension. I lower my shoulders and straighten my back. If my jaw is clenched or my brow is furrowed, I gently untighten them.
I massage my feet and hands. I thank them for all the work they do for me.
I check for eye strain. I look at an object far off in the distance and then another object up close. I feel my eyes relax.
I repeat an inspiring mantra. I engage with 1
the beauty that surrounds me.
When possible, I enjoy a little solitude. I walk in the park or sit on a bench. Even if I am surrounded by a crowd, I can take a break. I plug in my ear buds and listen to gentle instrumental music or a recording of spiritual chants. I close my eyes for a second and picture a garden or a mountain trail.
Today, I surrender to silence. Engaging in quiet moments helps me to think clearly and feel at peace.

Wellness is Power

In today’s world, it can feel like everything is moving faster and faster. Many people spend so much time caring for others they forget to care for themselves. Is it any wonder, then, that we’re feeling more stressed and unbalanced than ever? How do we achieve balance and wellness?

My mantra has always been “Balance is Key”. Life is full of ups and downs. There is no light without darkness, after all. This isn’t about always being positive or always being happy. Indeed, true power comes to those who embrace that spiritual balance and are willing to rise above what life throws at us.

It’s hard dealing with things like depression and anxiety. In fact, we often feel like we are going crazy and about to lose our minds. Well, guess what: I’m here to tell you that you aren’t crazy. Instead, what you are experiencing is negative feedback from America’s toxic socioeconomic system. Here’s how to break the cycle of letting stress and poverty consume you.

Jobs and Minimum Wage

We all know that today’s economy is not the same one that our parents and grandparents grew up with. In 1970, the United States minimum wage was $1.60. Adjusted for inflation, that equals $11.05 in 2021. However, our national minimum wage remains only $7.25. Created in 1938, The Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) set the minimum wage to create a minimum standard of living to help protect employee’s well being and health. As we can see by the current cost of living and minimum wage rates, these wages are not enough to survive on only working forty hours a week. 

Fifty years ago, it was normal for McDonald’s and grocery store jobs to be called teen jobs. People often worked these jobs while they were young. Then they would graduate from college or vocational school and move up in their careers. The same is not true today. Since 1970, college tuition rates have increased a whopping 3,009%. College is now a luxury that most people cannot afford and graduate school is even more impossible for many. This means the majority of adults now work these types of jobs that only pay minimum wage and desperately rely on their income to survive while avoiding stress and poverty.

No One Gets It

People with anxiety and depression often see a doctor with many patients suffering from the same issues involving stress and poverty. They usually just tell you that there is something wrong with your brain and throw pills at you. Then they move on to the next patient. It is a typical one-size-fits-all approach. They don’t bother to really ask you what is wrong or help you to get to the root of the problem.  The thing is, you aren’t crazy and your brain isn’t broken. You are just disconnected and burnt out from trying to survive the system that is unfairly against you.

Balance Is Key

Balance is key. That’s my mantra.

In this crazy world, you need to have balance between leading a good and full life. When you’re out of sync physically, emotionally, mentally, or spiritually, it can feel like the whole sky is falling. What’s worse, this imbalance only serves to create other problems! Physical exhaustion can lead to a lack of emotional control, inhibiting your mental strength and weakening your spirituality. Indeed, they all feed on one other in a way that makes life feel overwhelming and lonely.
But as Maya Angelou said, “We may encounter many defeats, but we must not be defeated.”

Moment in my Journey

It is important to share a moment in my journey. Yesterday I took a physical step in the spiritual journey. Healing comes in many ways: mentally would be accountability, physically would be to exercise, and spiritual would be to acceptance!!! These 3 area have been the focus for me in recent years. It has been a long journey and I wouldn’t change any growing pains. I can only describe the feeling I have now, it’s indescribable!! The journey continues & will not stop, discovering new part of myself or how I’m effected by old stuff is amazing!!

At 18 I wanted to get a tattoo because of course “I was Grown” I had no idea what to get. So long story short I got a Japanese symbol for Dangerous- as a caution for all!! It was definitely a representation of who I was at that time. Recently it began to bother me, it’s felt like the old blocking the new. That’s the energy I felt, so it was time for a change. It took about 3 months to find a replacement but like everything- what I truly needs come in it’s own time!!

The lotus flower emerges from murky waters perfectly clean and beautiful, so it is also a symbol for purity. Where all humans are born into a world of suffering where they must learn to overcome difficult times so that they can become a better person and reach spiritual enlightenment. The semicolon tattoo represents the fact that you have complete power over yourself, and can choose to keep fighting, even if you feel like giving up and putting a period on your life. 

It’s All in Your Head

  • The stuff people say only hurt of you believe it!! Know your intentions, know your heart and remember There are no rules to life. We all come from very different upbringing so what is common to other may not have been common in your house. Like me for instance, I grew up in the country and it was common to walk around with no shoe on. I love to walk in the grass or sand bare foot. Most people think it’s gross but that won’t change how I feel about it. We have to be willing to be different and love those differences.
  • Watch the ones who are always talking about what they aren’t doing!!
    Watch the people always talking money but never have any!
    Watch the ppl who claim they are so positive but always in some mess!!
    If you got money you definitely aren’t talking about it & if you’re positive you understand how to eliminate mess from around you!!!

    My Idea Of RIGHT

    It’s seems like everyone has an opinion on what’s right!!!

    My only problem is it defeats the whole point of America!!! To be an American is supposed to come with inheritance freedom! We have lost that! We have gotten so far from that it’s ridiculous!! The truly sad part is it on every individual & we are to blame!! We use law & taxes to control people. It becomes voting out of spite. When I 1st started voting there was a state and local tax on the broad. I couldn’t understand why so many people were willing to vote for the bill just to spite the people it effected. There was no reinvestment back into the community, the tax wasn’t going to be used for parks and school. It was simply to spite the people effected!!

    The tax I’m referring to is a tobacco tax. I used that as an example because I didn’t smoke & it didn’t effect me personally, most of the people I spoke with didn’t smoke & were definitely voting for the tax! My only thought was why make someone else life harder! The response I got most was if they can’t afford it they shouldn’t be smoking!! To me it’s the most disgusting response because no one is going to cigarette company and making them pay for people who need to smoke! Smoking is an addiction & no matter how you started quitting is hard as hell!! So an extra 5 dollars doesn’t make it easier to quit, it make it harder to process the need for the tobacco. So it’s completely insane to think paying more will make ppl quit. When true is all we had to do is stop advertising to kids and the industry would slowly go away!!

    I think about that time because of present day, we’ve gotten so complacent with voting for spite we forgot we have to live in these places. Women who are Pro Life I get, I don’t believe in abortion (also think circumcision disgusting) but I don’t get to tell anyone what is right in there lives!! No one should have the right over anyone life decisions! Especially when it’s such a one sided thing!! Remove the stigma from teen moms, remove the stigma of having 10 kids, how about make men marry who they get pregnant!! There are so many things going on in this world being a Free Human in America is something we shouldn’t be fighting for!!!

    Being Vulnerable

    It’s started rough and got rougher, by time you realize you are at the bottom you don’t know what the real issues are. So you forgive, yourself, your parents, your family, your friends, your ex’s, and everyone you can possible think of!! After all the forgiveness, you gotta learn to love yourself- with all the trauma that has built you into who you are. The good, the bad & the ugly, no matter what especially the things you don’t like! In order to gain a true love for self you must accept it all!! You get to that point of acceptance of yourself and your position in this life!! All of a sudden Beautiful things begin to happen, you get a good job, relationship with family and friends become more open and things begin to come into place. There just one thing missing love! You wonder if you are open to it truly, can you remove the wall and allow someone one in. You begin to dream of that special person & all of the quality you need to balances you, inspires you, & excites you all at the same time! In the back of your mind you think ain’t no one that perfect! One day you meet someone in a way you feel is so random but they know what to say to make you comfortable, check every single mark on the list you dreamed up in your head. You start to feel like you hit the lottery and then it’s your inability to be vulnerable kills it all!!

    Then it hit me Just Like An Epiphany

    I wasn’t even being a Woman, I was competing with men! I will not blame bad experience with men, or the fact my father was in & out my life because truth is I took the need to be equal and went ball to the wall with it!! I always wanted to be able to have the freedom of boys growing up, to get dirty, climb trees, walk around in the summer with no shirt on ( this is age 8 ) but growing up girls needed to be clean and pretty! Of course teen years made it worse because I just didn’t feel like other girl for a number of reasons. At this stage in my life I never thought twice about it until I loss my dream! It was crushing & one of the 1st times I’ve cried! 1st time I blamed myself & felt horrible about my behavior! At 1st I thought it was just me until I spoke to a friend & just listening to her express herself broke my heart!! I sounded just like her and if I was a man I wouldn’t have stayed either!! Broke my heart all over again, to this my inability to open up killed my prefect dream!! So I’m trying to open up & be more vulnerable! I may have missed this dream but no way in hell I’ll loss the next dream!!
